DAVID HEWITSON

Operations Director

David specialises in the quality, environmental, safety and operational management of practical survey, clearance and demilitarisation/disposal operations, focusing on a combination of training, the provision of advice and the management of independent quality assurance/control processes within major international projects for governments, international institutions and corporations.

David served as a Royal Navy Officer in submarines and has been involved in work relating to search and clearance of mines, unexploded ordnance and other explosive remnants of war, on land and at sea, for more than thirty years.  He has cleared munitions himself, run field operations and founded and developed substantial international clearance organisations.

 

COLIN KING

Technical Director

Colin's specialities include the disassembly and analysis of live munitions in conflict zones throughout the world, providing insight, advice and technical intelligence to a range of clients.  Colin also writes the leading technical reference work on EOD for Jane’s Information Group.

Colin King served as a bomb disposal officer in the British Army, with operational tours including the Falklands, Gulf, Bosnia and Kosovo.  He instructed at the British EOD School and spent many years in military intelligence, also leading the first British team to train Afghan deminers before his final tour with the Gurkhas.

 

OLIVER SHEPHERD

Project Officer

Olly provides specialist support to programmes and clients across the mine action sector, international institutions and Government departments, specialising in technical weapons investigation and analysis, particularly within the asymmetric environment and across the full spectrum of threat environments (land, maritime and littoral).  He is also responsible for developing Fenix training services for both external clients and in-house staff development.

Prior to joining Fenix in 2018, he served in the Royal Navy as a Mine Clearance Diving Officer and was a qualified High Threat Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (AEOC) operator.  As a previous Defence Intelligence analyst he has experience providing strategic analysis supported by deep technical knowledge.  Olly has operational EOD and C-IED experience both domestically and abroad, predominantly in the Middle East.

 

LEON HARRIS

Project Officer (Digital)

Leon coordinates the development and delivery of the Fenix Insight Online application and a range of other Fenix tech projects. He manages the Digital team in the input of Event and other contextual data to the database, use of AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning) systems, and the provision of analytic and dashboarding services. Leon is also responsible for policing office snack and coffee quality.

Leon is a developer and project manager who has worked extensively in fintech (financial technologies), publishing and the music industry. He has worked as a software developer, consultant and is director of several tech companies. Having previously worked with Fenix as a consultant for many years, he joined the team in 2019. Likes cats.

 

ZOE DUHIG

Operations & Office Manager

Responsible for ensuring that Fenix runs smoothly, Zoë manages the UK office, Training Facility and the expanding Fenix Team, as well undertaking many elements of projects including planning and development, operational logistics, order management and report drafting. She also maintains the company website and manages orders for UXO recognition playing cards and other specialist training aids.

Zoë joined Fenix Insight in 2014, having worked previously as an experienced Executive PA to the Director of Sales & Marketing (G4S Secure Solutions), and Executive Assistant to Directors of Legal & Compliance (Monitor, NHS Improvement).  When not on her motorbike, she spends her spare time online gaming or herding cats.

 

NEIL GIBSON

Technical Data Specialist

Neil is responsible for auditing and editing of technical munition records in the Fenix Online application. He works within the Digital and Technical teams to ensure that novel and unusual items are inputted; he sources, researches and compiles data pertaining to Explosive Ordnance (EO) for use by Fenix Insight, and provides ad hoc technical advice and document drafting.

Neil joined Fenix Insight in 2019 after previously working for Jane’s Information Group for many years as an Editor and Technical Writer for various publications, along with providing technical support to internal and external customers. Prior to this he worked as a contractor to the UK MoD covering trials work (high-speed photography, radiography and instrumentation) on various weapon systems.

 

MAX GRACE

Project Assistant

Max provides technical input to the Fenix Online Database and assists with a variety of other Fenix projects; from drafting specialist technical reports and presentations, to providing computer graphics skills for publications and other media. Max is currently training to support Fenix’s technical deployments, and has assisted the Technical Director on client projects in Cambodia, the Falkland Islands and in UK trials.

Max joined Fenix Insight in October 2017 having previously worked as a duty manager and team leader of an independent service-industry business. Outside Fenix, Max is studying Computer Programming at the Open University and enjoys travelling.

 

RICHARD LAWES

Project Assistant

Richard works in the Digital team on the development of the Fenix Online application, writing task specifications for the developers for bugs, errors and system updates, as well as providing a quality assurance testing function.  He looks after the IT infrastructure and hardware asset database, and ensures that the Fenix hardcopy resource collection is uploaded to Fenix Online.

Richard joined Fenix in 2018 following a career reassessment. He has an extensive background in IT as a mainframe support analyst and IT Manager for companies including Philips Electronics, TSB Trustcard, Direct Line and Shipping Guides Ltd.  In his spare time, Richard enjoys working on multiple Raspberry Pi projects and gardening.

 

OLIVER DENNY

Project Assistant

Olly works in the Digital team where he gathers, analyses and verifies events data from our AI and ML (machine learning) sources before it is uploaded onto Fenix Online. He continues to look for ways to make the process even faster and more efficient.

Olly joined Fenix Insight in early 2019, having previously worked in the Insurance industry as part of an Underwriting team. Prior to that, he was an apprentice Data Analyst (sales data) for an international consumer goods company. Oliver is a keen motorcycle enthusiast, with an interest in travelling.

 

NATASJE EDE

Project Assistant

Tasj is responsible for providing a high throughput of data into the Fenix Online application, creating technical munition records, adding images and inputting event data.  She creates video, graphics and publication layouts in support of a variety of Fenix projects including technical deployments, social media, Fenix Online and Fenix’s ongoing AR project.

Tasj also works as a professional freelance Video Editor & Camera Assistant and Graphic Designer and before joining Fenix in 2019, she worked as a Data Inputter for BMW Vines Gatwick.

 

GUY MAROT

Programme Manager

Contracted as the Programme Manager of the Falkland Islands Demining Programme Office, Guy is responsible for all aspects of technical direction, quality and safety of the mine clearance programme and provides client (UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, (FCO)) oversight of the Land Release Contractors contract. Ensuring that productivity and delivery meet the agreed timelines and signing off all handover and completion certificates on behalf of the National Mine Action Authority.

Guy has an extensive technical EOD and project manager background, having served in the British Army with tours including Northern Ireland, Bosnia and the Falkland Isles, and subsequent overseas experience working with and alongside United Nations, multinational agencies, NGOs and commercial organisations undertaking Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Mine Action, area clearance, demilitarisation, counter-terrorist and IED search, disposal and security.
